Mehrdad Jazayeri is the Robert A. Swanson Professor of Life Sciences in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an Investigator of the McGovern Institute for Brain Research. He received his B.Sc. in electrical engineering majoring in telecommunications from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. He then completed his M.S. in physiology at the University of Toronto, and his Ph.D. in neuroscience at New York University. Jazayeri was awarded a prestigious Helen Hay Whitney Foundation Fellowship for his postdoctoral work on the neurobiology of time. He is also a recent recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, the Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship, and the McKnight Scholar Award for his research on the neural computations and mechanisms of Bayesian inference. Jazayeri’s research is additionally supported by the National Institutes of Health, the McGovern Institute for Brain Research, and the Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering.
