Ian Oldenburg is an Assistant Professor at Rutgers University at the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, starting in Spring 2022. The Oldenburg Lab uses multiphoton optogenetics to understand how neural activity in the motor system gives rise to actions. In general, Ian is interested in understanding how neurons interact, but often the first step to answer these questions is to build new tools that allow ever more precise manipulations.
Ian received a B.S. in biology from Carnegie Mellon University. He completed his Ph.D. in 2014 at Harvard University with Bernardo Sabatini, and did a postdoctoral fellowship with Hillel Adesnik at the University of California Berkeley.
