Peter Latham is professor of theoretical neuroscience at the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit, University College London. He received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley and spent 10 years working on plasma physics at the University of Maryland. He switched to neuroscience in 1996 with a brief stint at NIH, followed by a slightly longer stint at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2004 he became a faculty member at the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit, UCL, where he has been ever since. He is interested in understanding how biologically realistic networks carry out computations, with a focus on probabilistic inference. His work borrows heavily from physics and machine learning.
