Science, Society & Culture
We seek to provide opportunities for people to forge a connection to science — whether for the first time or a lifetime. Through our initiatives, we work to inspire a feeling of awe and wonder, foster connections between people and science, and support environments that provide a sense of belonging.

Science, Society & Culture Programs
Science Sandbox
Science Sandbox advances science engagement through boundary-pushing, interdisciplinary projects that illuminate science in culture. In our partnerships we strive to bring to light the role scientific inquiry can play in people’s day-to-day lives, while centering communities and voices that have been historically left out of the conversation.
Presents
A free event series, Presents aims to create a space for conversations about science and its broader societal and cultural relevance. Each event pairs one of our 200 researchers with special guests to discuss the intersection of their work, ending with an opportunity for the audience to continue the discussion together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Presidential Lectures
Presidential Lectures are curated, high-level scientific talks featuring leading scientists and mathematicians. The lectures are free for the public to attend with the goal of fostering discourse and driving discovery among the broader NYC-area research community.
Autism in the Workplace
Autism in the Workplace works to improve neurodiversity at the Simons Foundation and across industries through mentorship, work skills and job experience. We provide guidance and training to help autistic adults forge successful career paths, and resources to help employers increase neurodiversity at their organizations.
Quanta Magazine
Quanta is an editorially independent magazine that is devoted to providing informative and accessible coverage of current issues in mathematics and basic science.
The Transmitter
The Transmitter is an essential resource for the neuroscience community, dedicated to helping scientists at all career stages stay current and build connections. The publication aims to deliver useful information, insights and tools to build bridges across neuroscience and advance research.
Sandbox Films
Sandbox Films is a production studio that illuminates the art and beauty of scientific inquiry: humankind's weird, messy, brilliant way of navigating the world.
Math for America
MƒA keeps great math and science teachers in the profession by providing financial support and an exciting community focused on pedagogical scholarship. We believe that when teaching is rewarding, our most accomplished teachers will remain in the profession longer, and when the profession is exciting, it will attract talented new teachers as well.
