Martin Ackermann is a professor of microbial systems ecology at ETH Zürich and is also associated with Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology.

Andrew E. Allen is a joint professor of microbial oceanography and ecology in both the Integrative Oceanography Division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego, and the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI).

Jan-Hendrik Hehemann is a professor of glycobiochemistry at the University of Bremen in Germany and is also affiliated with the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences (MARUM) at the University of Bremen and the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPI MM).

Terry Hwa is the Presidential Chair and Distinguished Professor of Physics at the University of California, San Diego, with joint appointment in the Division of Biological Sciences. He is also the founding director of the quantitative biology program at UC San Diego.

Naomi M. Levine is a Gabilan Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California where she holds joint appointments in the Departments of Marine and Environmental Biology, Quantitative and Computational Biology, and Earth Sciences.

Mary Ann Moran is a marine microbial ecologist in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Georgia.

Victoria J. Orphan is the James Irvine Professor of Environmental Science and Geobiology in the Divisions of Geological and Planetary Science and Biology and Biological Engineering at Caltech.

Uwe Sauer is a trained microbiologist, having also completed postdoctoral training in metabolic engineering. His research as a principal investigator and, since 2006, as a professor for systems biology at the ETH Zürich, focused on fundamental questions related to microbial metabolism.
