Neuroscientist SueYeon Chung Awarded Sloan Research Fellowship

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has awarded neuroscientist SueYeon Chung one of its prestigious research fellowships. The honor recognizes “early-career researchers whose creativity, innovation, and research accomplishments make them stand out as the next generation of leaders.”

Chung is a project leader at the Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Neuroscience and an assistant professor at New York University. She develops mathematical theories for understanding how neurons collectively give rise to behavior in biological and artificial neural networks.

The two-year Sloan Research Fellowships are among the most prestigious honors for early-career scientists and come with $75,000 to support their research.

Before joining the Flatiron Institute, Chung was a postdoctoral research scientist in the Center for Theoretical Neuroscience at Columbia University. Before that, she was a fellow in computation at MIT. She received her Ph.D. in applied physics from Harvard University.
