Announcing COVID-19 Microgrants for Nonprofits That Promote Science Engagement
Science Sandbox will award $25,000 microgrants to up to 10 science engagement-focused nonprofit organizations that face operations and staffing challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Awards will be unrestricted, with informal, low-touch reporting requirements. The program is open to existing and previous Science Sandbox awardees and other organizations within the science communication field.
Applications will remain open until October 26. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of November.
This microgrant program is meant to support small to medium-sized grassroots nonprofit organizations that have been negatively impacted by restrictions related to COVID-19. Organizations must have 501(c)(3) status and should be mission-aligned with Science Sandbox. Our funding criteria can be found here. Organizations must be based in the US.
Science Sandbox recognizes that COVID-19 has disproportionately affected Black and Hispanic/Latinx communities. The application form will require applicants to describe their efforts to reach these communities. Organizations that serve these communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
The application, which will not require strenuous administrative work, can be found here. Submissions will be accepted no later than October 26.
Any questions related to the process can be directed to [email protected]. Due to the expected high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond quickly to inquiries. Please allow a few business days for a response.
