Yoshinori Aso, Ph.D.

Yoshinori Aso is fellow at Janelia Research Campus. He received his B.A. from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in life science, an M.S. from Heidelberg University in molecular and cellular biology, and a Ph.D. from the University of Würzburg in natural science. He was then a postdoctoral fellow at Janelia Research Campus, where he trained with Gerald M. Rubin. Aso’s lab studies how different kinds of memories are stored in brains and how information distributed in brains is integrated to guide action selection, using the circuit of the drosophila mushroom body as a model system. The lab uses computational neuroanatomy, cell-type-specific genetic drivers, fully automated optogenetic behavioral assays, molecular genetic tools, expansion microscopy and two-photon calcium imaging.
