Shubhangi Saraf, Ph.D.

Shubhangi Saraf is an associate professor in the mathematics and computer science departments at Rutgers University. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from MIT in 2007 and then a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from MIT in 2011, where she was advised by Madhu Sudan. Prior to joining the faculty of Rutgers University in 2012, she spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study. She is a recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship and the NSF CAREER Award.

Shubhangi’s research interests lie broadly in theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics. More specifically she is interested in the complexity of arithmetic computation, the role of randomness in computing, discrete geometry, error correcting codes, sublinear time algorithms and in connections between these areas.
