Matt Rynes is a mentor in the 2024 SURFiN program. He is a postdoctoral fellow in Lucas Pinto’s lab at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Rynes holds a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and biochemistry and a doctorate in biomedical engineering from the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on spatially patterned optogenetics in mice to study multi-region activity dynamics underlying decision making. Rynes is the recipient of the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Scholar Award and the University of Minnesota Institute for Engineering in Medicine Doctoral Fellowship 2021-2022.
