Janis Hesse, Ph.D.

Janis Hesse is a mentor in the 2024 SURFiN program. He is a postdoctoral scholar in Doris Tsao’s lab at the University of California, Berkeley. Hesse holds a bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics from Freie Universität Berlin and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the California Institute of Technology. His research focuses on neural mechanisms of conscious perception using binocular rivalry and psychedelics. Hesse is the recipient of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes full scholarship and the FQXi Large Grant Award.
