Carla Golden, Ph.D.

Carla Golden is a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Christine Constantinople at New York University. She received her Ph.D. in neuroscience from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and her B.S. from Pennsylvania State University.

She is broadly interested in how biological sex influences the way we interact with the world. Under the supervision of Joseph Buxbaum and Hala Harony-Nicolas, she focused her doctoral dissertation on understanding the transcriptional and neuroanatomical alterations associated with attention deficits in male and female transgenic rat models of fragile X syndrome. Her current postdoctoral research focuses on the regulation of value-based decision-making by estradiol, a gonadal hormone. Through this work, she hopes to elucidate the process by which natural fluctuations in estradiol mediate reward learning through the modulation of dopamine in the brain.

Among Golden’s academic awards and honors are the Philip Hausfeld Memorial Scholarship for best senior neuroscience student and the award for Science Advocacy at Mount Sinai.
