Marsha Berger Joins CCM As New Group Leader

We are excited to announce the appointment of Marsha Berger as a new group leader in the Center for Computational Mathematics (CCM) at the Flatiron Institute. Berger is also the Silver Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics at the Courant Institute at New York University.

Her research interests include computational fluid dynamics, adaptive methods; and parallel scientific computing. Berger has been the recipient of the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award and the Faculty Award for Women. She has also received the NASA 2002 Software of the Year Award for Cart3D with her team and the IEEE Sidney Fernbach Award. In 2019, she also was awarded the Norbert Wiener Prize in Applied Mathematics for her contributions to adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) and to Cartesian mesh techniques for automating the simulation of compressible flows in complex geometry. She has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering; and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In addition, she was a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
