UPDATE (5/29/2020): Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, “Theater of the Mind” has been postponed. The team is working on identifying dates in 2021 to premiere the event. Science Sandbox remains excited about this groundbreaking exhibit.

“Theater of the Mind,” an immersive 15,000-square-foot installation that takes its audience on a sensory journey through the human brain, is set to premiere at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in August 2020. Co-created by Talking Heads frontman and artist David Byrne and writer Mala Gaonkar, the neuroscience-based exhibit is supported by Science Sandbox.

Small audiences — only 16 at a time – will be led through a complex, participatory experience of narrative storytelling. Sensory experiments, developed in consultation with neuroscientists, will be conducted in real time, and the creators promise, “No two audience members will have the same experience.”
