2018 Simons Early Career Investigators in Marine Microbial Ecology and Evolution Announced
The Simons Foundation has named four scientists as 2018 Simons Early Career Investigators in Marine Microbial Ecology and Evolution. The three-year awards are intended to help launch the careers of outstanding investigators in this area. The awardees are:
Jeff Bowman of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, who will quantify microbial ecosystem functions by developing high-resolution time series.
Kyle Edwards of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, who will study the evolution of ecosystem function in phytoplankton-virus communities.
Katherine Mackey of the University of California, Irvine, who will develop a new framework to predict how resource toxicity affects phytoplankton competition and biogeography.
Jodi Young of the University of Washington, who will characterize marine Rubiscos in an effort to understand carbon fixation in the oceans.
