Simons Collaboration on the Many Electron Problem Holds First Annual Summer School

From June 9 to June 13, 2014, the Simons Collaboration on the Many Electron Problem held its first summer school.

In the stimulating environment provided by the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook University, six collaboration senior scientists presented topics including fundamental many body physics, electronic structure theory and forefront numerical methodologies to 24 collaboration students and postdoctoral researchers. Peter Johnson and John Hill, scientists from nearby Brookhaven National Laboratories, provided an experimental perspective with lectures on angle-resolved photoemission and resonant X-ray scattering, respectively.

The school was a success, providing junior scientists with an overview of the goals of the collaboration, a summary of the scientific background necessary for participation and an introduction to open questions motivating collaboration research.

Planning for next year’s school has already begun.
